I think I’m obsessed with Magic Rock. About six weeks ago I first stumbled upon a directional sign in the desert which simply said, “Magic Rock – 800 Ft”. I didn’t have the time on that particular day to take a walk but I made plans to return to the site to investigate. In the weeks that followed I also noticed more
and more signs with reference to Magic Rock.
One morning I parked my car at the sign and hiked out in the direction of where the rock supposedly was. As I started my trek I discovered a flag in the distance and so I assumed it was marking Magic Rock. A safe assumption I presume but what I found was not only unsettling but a little scary as well.
As I got closer to the boulder I realized there was something on top of it. It looked like someone had left behind a coat. The nearer I got the more unnerved I became as it wasn’t a coat but an animal. There was either a dog or coyote on the rock that was completely dried out from the sun. The rock itself was stained and I quickly deduced that other animals had been left here this way before. I looked around to double check that I was indeed alone as it certainly didn’t feel safe. I hurried to the car and made my escape.
I don’t know if Magic Rock is “good” magic or “black” magic. Is it a Native American legend or some strange local ritual? I’ve googled it many times and although a phone number comes up I only get voice mail every time I call it. I haven’t left messages. The address connected with the phone number is a for a mobile home park behind The Golden Lantern Liquor Store pretty far removed from The Magic Rock itself. I’ve come to the conclusion the phone number and the rock are unrelated.
So what happens here? Does anyone know? I am extremely intrigued and hope that someone can help explain this mystery. And if you decide to investigate for yourself then please don’t go alone, tell someone where you are and be careful!

Well, Randy, that’s just really creepy. I love it! Have you ever seen “The Hills Have Eyes”? If you have, I bet you won’t venture out to Magic Rock anymore — at least, not alone! I must admit, however, I love the juxtaposition — the nice, clean, professional sign in the bright sunlight contrasting with an aged, stained, possibly sacrificial (?) rock. There’s a mystery here, and it’s worthy of the vastness and starkness of the desert. If you find out any more info about Magic Rock, let us know. I’d like to be there to feel the vibe of the place. thqat would tell a lot. DEH
The previews alone for that movie creeped me out Drew!!.. But that’s exactly the feeling I got!
